Winner of Best Paper Award GIMC 2012, Abu Dhabi

Assalamu 'alaykum WW,

For those who are interested in my paper entitled "Undisclosed Potential of Zakat Payment Deficit", the paper is downloadable from https://skydrive.live.com/?sc=documents&cid=69bb9406c840fccd#cid=69BB9406C840FCCD&id=69BB9406C840FCCD%21182&sc=documents

Alhamdulillah, the paper has won the Best Paper Award (1st prize money of US$ 5,000) at the 2nd Global Islamic Marketing Award (GIMC), 17-18 January 2012.

Moreover, I am delighted to inform you that I have been appointed a Country Chair for the Global Islamic Marketing Conference (GIMC) to cover Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia (other country chairmanships cover: Turkey, Egypt, Poland, Nigeria, Canada, and Pakistan). The next GIMC will be held in early January 2013. Herewith, I cordially invite you to participate in the GIMC-2013. Other country chairmanship members for Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei are joining shortly.

Please be advised that shariah economy now becomes a hot cake and grows quite steadily. These are the following facts that I quoted from the keynote speaker at GIMC-2012, 17-18 January 2012, two weeks back:

1) Islamic finance gains significant popularity follows the economic turmoil in the US and Europe;
2) Currently, Islamic marketing accounts for about US$ 3 trillion and grows at a rate of 15% annually;
3) Halal food market is managing some US$ 66.6 billion per annum;
4) Malaysia is managing the world’s biggest sukuk (Islamic bonds) industry of RM 30 billion;
5) Brazil has appointed a special envoy to manage halal trading with Muslim countries;
6) Researches in Islamic finance, banking, and trading coming from western scientists (i.e. non-Muslim) are growing in numbers.

We are about one year away from the next GIM-2013. The best paper and presentation in the conference will be granted larger prize money next year. In the last GIMC-2012, the 1st prize money was US$ 5,000.

Herewith, I invite more Muslim scholars to participate in the research on Islamic economy. If you are not a “marketing man”, please do not be discouraged. The conference actually covers a diverse spectrum of Islamic economy.

So, give us your best shot. Come to Abu Dhabi in January 2013.

Wassalam,
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tono Saksono
Country Chair, Global Islamic Marketing Conference 2013 for Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia
